| The Carpenter’s Kids Program The Carpenter’s Kids Program is a partnership between the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the Diocese of Central Tanganyika (Tanzania). With over 2.5 million AIDS orphans in Tanzania, the Carpenter’s Kids Program provides assistance to these and other vulnerable children through a relationship of mutual prayer, communication and support. Episcopal parishes in New York are linked with a parish in Tanzania, and provide school uniforms, shoes, supplies and one hot meal each school day for the sponsored children. The population of Tanzania is one third Christian, one third Muslim and one third of tribal beliefs. The principal purpose of this program is to improve life through education. The Carpenter’s Kids Program does not discriminate in any way when selecting children to participate, in respect of the diverse local population. The members of St. Mary’s Church of Scarborough currently sponsor 55 children as part of the Carpenter’s Kids Program. It is our hope that by doing so, we may provide an opportunity for a brighter future for these young children. |
